Wife Pension used to be available to the female partner of a Disability Support Pensioner or Age Pensioner.
Wife Pension is gradually being phased out. New grants of Wife Pension stopped on 1 July 1995, however if you were receiving Wife Pension before that date, you can continue to receive the payment until you are transferred to Age Pension. Wife Pension is not activity tested so you do not have to look for work or do training.
The payment rate is the same as each member of a couple receives for the age pension and the same means tests apply.
The Wife Pension is taxable if the wife or husband is of age pension age. However if both spouses are under age pension age the Wife Pension is Non-Taxable.
